Alice Houser Machlan, (Mrs. Harold Floor), called the organizational meeting of Biscayne Chapter NSDAR to order on February 18, 1947. The first meeting was held at the Flamingo Hotel in Miami Beach. The meeting adjourned with the following: "The Lord watch between thee and me while we are absent, one from another." Thirty were present. Biscayne Chapter began with 19 members. The Biscayne Chapter now has a membership of approximately 101 members. We welcome seasonal as well as local members. Several members are active at the state and national levels. The Biscayne Chapter supports national and state committees, and is especially proud of the support given to the DAR Library and Seimes Microfilm Center by chapter member, Violet Storer. Member Mary T. Dyer ("Stormy") served as Chairman of the Florida Tamassee Cottage at Tamassee DAR School during the past ten years. Currently member Donna Cullen is serving as the FSSDAR Vice Regent 2009-2011. Also, member Connie Fauntleroy Danluck has held the VAVS Appointments at the Miami VA Medical Center and is the current State Regent's Project Chairman. Meetings are held overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on Miami Beach. Guests are welcome and new members are always encouraged. |
