Okeechobee Chapter DAR was organized February 4, 1995, with Marion Wagner as founding Regent.  The Chapter name was adopted from historic Lake Okeechobee, the second largest freshwater lake within the boundaries of the continental United States. The name is derived from the Indian  word "oki," which means water, and "chobee," which means big. We are proud to have two members of our Chapter who are descendants of Mary Desha, one of six founders of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  We also have three members who are descendants of Kate Duncan Smith, for whom the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School was named.
