Major William Lauderdale Chapter Activities

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is an educational non-profit organization, formed in 1891 in Washington, DC. Its goals are the perpetuation of the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence by the preservation of historical relics and locations, and of records of their individual service; the encouragement of research and publication of historical documents; the promotion of patriotism and love of county; the support of educational facilities.

The Major William Lauderdale Chapter, NSDAR, supports these goals through the following activities:

DAR Good Citizen Contest - Open to all Broward County High School Seniors.

Scholarships - Awarded annually.

U.S. Flag - Flags are presented to scout troops, churches, or schools.

NSDAR Sponsored Schools - Facilities throughout the country for underprivileged students. Contributions are from individuals and chapter fundraising.

Naturalization - Encourages US Resident Aliens to achieve American citizenship. 

JROTC - Presents medals annually to 14 Broward County high schools along with Civil Air Patrol and the Naval Cadets. 

Historical Preservation - Ellis Island, Florida House of Representatives Room, Statue of Liberty, Riverwalk, Old Davie School.

Research and Publication - Chapter members annually research, type, index, and photocopy thousands of pages of records for placement in libraries and historical societies throughout the country.
